A research institute jointly funded by Zhejiang University of Technology and the Taizhou municipal government was inaugurated on Jan 15, according to local media reports.

While addressing attendees at the inauguration ceremony, Wu Haiping, mayor of Taizhou, noted that Taizhou highly values scientific and technological innovation, adding that  the city has seen a stable improvement in its scientific and technological innovation capability by optimizing its innovation ecosystem, as well as by advancing cooperation with prestigious universities.

Its partnership with Zhejiang University of Technology, a provincial key university, has great potential, he said, expressing hope that the newly established research institute will bolster the sustained growth of sectors, including pharmaceutical, high-end equipment, and smart manufacturing, in the city.

Cai Yuanqiang, Party chief of Zhejiang University of Technology, said that the institute's establishment comes as a new exploration for pragmatic cooperation between the university and government, adding that it will be devoted to technological innovation and application, as well as talent cultivation in several key areas.

Prior to the ceremony, the institute had incubated more than 60 technical accomplishments and will team with local enterprises to promote their applications.
