Taizhou achieves a V-shaped recovery in exports

Imports and exports in Taizhou were valued at 167.9 billion yuan ($25.83 billion) in the first 11 months of last year, up 9.25 percent year-on-year, according to the Taizhou municipal bureau of commerce.

Specifically, its exports amounted to 155.4 billion yuan, representing a yearly uptick of 10.03 percent, the sixth fastest in East China's Zhejiang province from January to November.

The city's exports went through a V-shaped recovery. It started to see positive growth in September after a year-on-year contraction in the first eight months of the year due to the impact of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

Exports to traditional markets picked up sharply. Double-digit or triple-digit growth rates were seen in Europe, Asia, North America, Latin America, Africa, and Oceania.

Among them, goods exported by Taizhou to the United States, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, and Canada expanded by 146.2 percent, 161.9 percent, 196.7 percent, and 186.5 percent year-on-year respectively over the 11-month period.

Exports of mechanical and electrical products were valued at 12.47 billion yuan, up 77.9 percent, while the exports value for high-tech products increased by 17.3 percent to 1.14 billion yuan.

Double-digit growth was also seen in the exports of commodities. including medical chemical products, valve faucets, furniture, plastic molds, shoes, liquid pumps, automobiles and auto parts, as well as textile and clothing from the city.

In addition, cross-border e-commerce also grew at an accelerated pace. 

As of the end of last year, the export volume of 60 cross-border e-commerce enterprises registered in Taizhou totaled 2.06 billion yuan, ammouting to 28.4 percent of the total in Zhejiang.

The growth momentum in foreign trade has been extended to this year.

Zheng Jing, manager of the foreign trade department at Taizhou Huangyan Haiyao Artware Co Ltd, said that the company has been fully booked until the second quarter of this year.
