Taizhou in East China's Zhejiang province aims to develop itself into a national demonstration city for the private economy during the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-25) period, according to a report delivered by Li Yueqi, secretary of the CPC Taizhou Municipal Committee.

Li delivered the report at the 5th session of the 5th Taizhou Municipal Congress of the Communist Party of China, which commenced on Jan 7.

A total of 418 out of 435 deputies were present at the conference.

According to the report, in the next five years, the city will continue to facilitate industrial digital transformation and upgrading, bolster public happiness and improve the quality of life for residents, as well as uphold the pioneering spirit developed by the city in reclaiming Dachen Island.

The spirit, with entrepreneurship, diligence, selfless dedication, and innovation at its core, was there in 1956 when 467 young people answered the call of the nation to open up land on Dachen Island, eventually building the island into a land of prosperity.
