A total of 13 scenic spots from Taizhou were recently included in the "Shining Pearls" campaign launched by Zhejiang province.

Zhejiang is set to give priority to the development of 60 scenic attractions within its jurisdiction, building them into "shinning pearls", according to a plan released by the provincial government.

The following are some of the scenic spots from Taizhou that are included in the campaign:

Potan Ancient Town

Potan Ancient Town is an ancient commercial town, 25 kilometers from the urban area of Xianju county.

It is home to well-preserved numerous ancient buildings from the Ming and Qing Dynasties (1368-1912), ranging from old shops to ancient residences, casinos, and ancestral temples.

Visitors can also experience folk arts like frameless festive lanterns, which have risen to fame from home and abroad.

Ancient City of Taizhou Cultural Scenic Area

Located in Linhai county, the Ancient City of Taizhou Cultural Scenic Area covers a total area of 3.12 square kilometers and consists of such scenic spots as the City Wall of the Ancient City of Taizhou, Ziyang Street, East Lake, and Jinshan Hill.

The City Wall of the Ancient City of Taizhou, which is also known as "the Southern Great Wall," has a total length of about 5,000 meters. It was listed as a relic under State protection in 2001 and on the preparatory list of China World Cultural Heritage in 2012.

Stretching 1,080 meters, Ziyang Street is one of the most well-preserved historical blocks in China. In 2012, it was named a "Famous Chinese Historical and Cultural Street" by the Ministry of Culture and the State Bureau of Cultural Relics.

Shifengxi

Shifengxi is the largest river in Tiantai county, Taizhou. In recent years, the local authorities have made great efforts to construct a number of scenic spots along the river themed around the Road of Tang Poetry in eastern Zhejiang.

The Road of Tang Poetry refers to a route that crosses through much of eastern Zhejiang. It received its name because more than 400 poets in the Tang Dynasty (618-907) traversed the road, including Li Bai, Du Fu, and Bai Juyi.
