A total of 65 boxes of mutton donated by Mongolia arrived in Taizhou, East China's Zhejiang province on Dec 9, according to local media reports.

The mutton donated by China's northern neighbor will be given to medics from the city that assisted Central China's Hubei province in fighting the novel coronavirus.

Each box labeled "Mongolia-donated sheep" contains about 15 kilograms of mutton.

Earlier this year, Taizhou sent a total of 177 medics to help in the fight against the epidemic in Hubei province.

Hong Youyou, head nurse of the internal medicine department at the Taizhou Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine, was among the second group of medics sent from Zhejiang to Hubei.

She was stationed at Tianyou Hospital affiliated with Wuhan University of Science & Technology, where she stayed for 52 days.

"I was surprised to receive the donation of mutton from Mongolia and I hope to share it with my colleagues and family," Hong said.

Even though she has now completed her assignment, Hong revealed that she still keeps in close contact with the doctors and nurses at Tianyou Hospital who fought by her side.

In February, Mongolian President Khaltmaa Battulga visited China and promised to offer 30,000 sheep as a token of support.
