Dachen Island situated in Taizhou's Jiaojiang district is well-known for the breeding of large yellow croakers. The island, 52 kilometers from the urban area of Taizhou, comprises 29 small islets and occupies 14.6 square kilometers.

The annual output of yellow croakers now stands at 5,000 metric tons, accounting for two-thirds of the province's total. Dachen Island is dubbed the "capital of yellow croakers on the East China Sea".

There are 13 companies engaged in yellow croaker farming on the island, with 650 deepwater cages.

In 2010, Dachen yellow croaker was designated a geographical indication (GI) product by the National Intellectual Property Administration.
