Tourism in Taizhou rebounded significantly over the eight-day National Day holiday despite the results being still below the same period last year.

As of 6:30 pm on Oct 8, the city had received more than 4.24 million visitors throughout the holiday, a decline of 9 percent year-on-year. A total of 914,700 visitors stayed overnight in the city.

A total of 4.66 billion yuan ($675.36 million) in tourism revenue was generating during this period, representing a yearly decline of 9.1 percent, according to the Taizhou municipal bureau of culture, radio, film and tourism.

Due to the impact of the COVID-19 epidemic, 60.4 percent of tourists to the city were local. Visitors from outside the city came primarily from Zhejiang, Jiangsu, Guangdong, and Shanghai.

The room occupancy rate among starred hotels in the city was 57.6 percent during the holiday, 10 percentage points higher than during the May Day holiday. All 29 boutique homestays in the city were fully booked during the period.

Local scenic attractions were required to limit the number of visitors to less than 75 percent of their daily maximum capacity during the holiday.

A total of 11 scenic attractions, including the Tiantai Mountain Grand Waterfall, Guoqing Temple, and Shenxianju, received over 100,000 visitors.
