Sidu village in Qiushan township, Taizhou has emerged as a popular destination for night tours.

With a history of more than 1,300 years, Sidu has been designated a Chinese traditional village. It has long been a cultural and commercial hub of western Xianju.

In recent years, the village has been working to improve its environment, demolishing 400 pigsties and 445 outdoor pig feed tanks.

A traditional-style street, 280 meters in length and 30 meters in width, has been built in their place.

The village's ancient architecture has also been renovated and now lights up at night thanks to more than 3 million yuan ($434,782.6) in funds from the township government.

Light shows featuring water, natural scenery, ancient architecture, oil tea, lanterns, and more are now regularly held in the village, attracting numerous visitors.

In addition, some cultural activities such as operas and drum beating are being held at night.

The burgeoning nighttime economy in Sidu is helping local villagers increase their incomes. Chen Qiaozhen, a villager from Sidu, earned more than 200 yuan in one day by selling toys to visitors at the entrance of the village.

Night tours in the village have also increased sales of local specialties such as oil tea and waxberry wine. Official data show that since the launch of night tours, the price of oil tea has increased by 60 percent, and its sales have jumped by 15 percent.

The Qianshan government recently introduced guidelines to spur nighttime consumption and attract investment for enterprises, individuals, and social organizations.
