Taizhou's Luqiao and Jiaojiang districts were recently included in a provincial pilot program to develop the nighttime economy.

As part of the core urban area of Taizhou, Luqiao has seen its nighttime economy develop rapidly in recent years.

Within the next three years, the district aims to build itself into a beacon of nighttime consumption in Southeast Zhejiang.

In 2020, it aims to establish 50,000 square meters of permanent shops and set up more than 5,000 temporary booths.

The city plans to invest at least 100 million yuan ($14.49 million) into developing its nighttime economy this year, which is expected to result in over 10,000 new jobs and attract more than three million visitors.

The nighttime economy is targeted to grow by 25 percent in Luqiao in 2021. By this time, the average per capita consumption in Luqiao is expected to be over 50,000 yuan, and the district is expected to be home to 10 special nighttime consumption areas.

Meanwhile, Jiaojiang has been listed as a candidate for the program and plans to ramp up efforts to develop its nighttime economy.

Official data shows that the added value of the modern service sector in Jiaojiang totaled 37.326 billion yuan in 2019.

Next, the district plans to encourage more nighttime consumption and build six nighttime consumption zones by 2022.

Taizhou will soon unveil its plan to spur nighttime activities such as shopping, eating, entertainment, and tourism across the city, according to a head official from the Taizhou municipal bureau of commerce.
