The express delivery industry of Taizhou, East China's Zhejiang province, is about to enter its busy season, according to a statement by a worker from the Taizhou Postal Administration on July 6.

He noted that the second half of each year is the peak season for the e-commerce industry, while express delivery business from e-commerce traders accounts for roughly 80 percent of all express delivery business in the city.

Statistics from the Taizhou Postal Administration showed that in the first five months of this year, Taizhou's express delivery companies delivered 32,928 parcels, a year-on-year increase of 8.3 percent, and raked in 1.76 billion yuan ($251 million), a 9.6 percent year-on-year increase.

However, due to the novel coronavirus pneumonia outbreak, express delivery in Taizhou experienced a sharp decline in January and February, seeing a year-on-year decrease of roughly 40 percent in January.

Express delivery started recovering in Taizhou in March, and in May, the number of parcels delivered by local express delivery companies soared 53.3 percent year-on-year to 12,419, and operating income jumped 39 percent year-on-year to 530 million yuan.
