Taizhou's Luqiao district recently reached a partnership with Huawei Technologies, China's largest smartphone maker and leader in 5G.

The two sides will jointly explore digital transformation in the sectors of smart city, public security and other local industries in Luqiao.

Chen Wei, an official from the Taizhou municipal bureau of economy and information said the city is currently committed to the promotion of 5G application by integrating it with emerging technologies such as industrial internet, blockchain, big data and artificial intelligence.

To date, 1,203 5G base stations have been deployed in Taizhou.

The number of 5G base stations in the city is projected to surpass 5,000 by the end of 2020 and 15,000 by the end of 2025, covering the entire city.

Taizhou also plans to build a 5G industrial ecosystem by introducing a large number of R&D companies and equipment manufacturing companies in the field.

The city is striving to construct Dachen Island in Jiaojiang district into China's 5G demonstration island.

The cutting-edge technology has already been applied in industries such as medicine, education and tourism on the island.

In late March, the first five 5G base stations were put to use in Taizhou’s Huangyan district and are expected to help fuel the growth of the local molding industry.
