Spending on food and housing still made up the lion's share of total consumption, according to the statistics.

Per capita spending on education, culture, and entertainment among urban residents rose 10.3 percent to 3,591 yuan, accounting for 9.5 percent of the total.

Meanwhile, the figure for their rural counterparts stood at 2,342 yuan, registering a yearly uptick of 10.8 percent.
