A medical team from Taizhou was assigned to care for patients in a temporary hospital in Wuhan, where the novel coronavirus pneumonia was first reported, on Feb 11, according to local media reports.

The team, comprised of 40 doctors and nurses from 21 hospitals, is the fourth group of medics from Taizhou to be sent to Wuhan to help fight against the epidemic.

The makeshift hospital set up at Huangpo Gymnasium will ultimately be capable of housing more than 130 patients who have tested positive for the virus but show no severe symptoms.

Medical teams from Taizhou, Jiaxing, and Jinhua will take charge of the hospital, according to Zhejiang provincial health authorities.

The temporary hospital began receiving patients at 11:00 pm on Feb 11, and two doctors from Taizhou started treating them.

Qin Jie, deputy head of the emergency department of Taizhou Hospital, said that conditions at the temporary hospital are not as good as those at a regular hospital, calling on his team to pay more attention to self-protection while treating patients.

Local government leaders such as Li Yueqi, Party secretary of the CPC Taizhou Municipal Committee and Wu Haiping, acting mayor of the Taizhou Municipal People's Government, thanked medics on the frontlines of the battle against the epidemic in a video call on Feb 8.
