Plum blossoms recently came into full bloom in Taizhou, East China's Zhejiang province, adding a splash of color to the city ahead of the Lunar New Year.

The following are some of the best places to enjoy plum blossoms in the city.

The City Wall of the Ancient City of Taizhou

The City Wall of the Ancient City of Taizhou, also known as "the Southern Great Wall" is a renowned attraction in Taizhou's Linhai city. A plum garden is located next to it.

Although the garden covers an area of only six or seven mu (0.46 hectares), it houses more than 200 different varieties of plum tree.

Climbing the wall while immersed in the fragrance of plum blossoms is a memorable experience.

Memorial Temple of Zheng Guangwen

Situated at the southern foot of Beigu Mountain and adjacent to the City Wall of the Ancient City of Taizhou, there is an ancient memorial temple with a history of more than 1,000 years.

The temple was built to commemorate Zheng Guangwen, a renowned writer, calligrapher and painter in the Tang Dynasty (618-907).

The temple is currently rife with fully bloomed plum blossoms.

Guoqing Temple

Guoqing Temple on Tiantai Mountain in Taizhou is the cradle of the Tiantai Sect of Chinese Buddhism, with a history of more than 1,400 years.

There is an old plum tree in the temple, which is said to be planted by master Zhang An, a monk in the Sui Dynasty ((581-618). It is one of the three oldest plum trees in China.

Former Residence of Ji Gong

Ji Gong was a Chan Buddhist monk who lived in the Southern Song Dynasty (1127-1279). He purportedly possessed supernatural powers, which he used to help the poor and stand up to injustice.

Despite few plum trees in the residence, the combination of the trees with the bridge, pavilion and water create a tranquil atmosphere.

Xiashan Gangtou

Situated in Haiyou sub-street of Sanmen, Xiashan Gangtou is a must-see for shutterbugs looking to take photos of plum blossoms.

Dongping village

Dongping village, situated in Hengdu town, Sanmen county, has been dubbed "a gallery of landscapes away from the city".

The fragrance of plum blossoms endows the ancient village with a special charm.
