More than 3.72 million people in Taizhou affected by Typhoon Lekima

Some 3.72 million people in Taizhou, East China's Zhejiang province had been affected by Typhoon Lekima as of 10 am Wednesday, according to an announcement at a government press conference.

A total of 4,107 houses collapsed and 9,154 were damaged, while 111,000 hectares of crops were affected by the typhoon. The direct economic loss for Taizhou has amounted to 25.128 billion yuan ($3.75 billion).

Lekima landed at around 1:45 am Saturday in the city of Wenling. According to the conference, it had been the strongest typhoon to land in Taizhou since the founding of new China.

Most parts of the city have returned to normalcy, with work on post-disaster reconstruction in full swing.
