Taizhou's five counties and three districts were recently ranked among the top 100 counties (districts) with strong innovation capabilities nationwide.

The list, compiled by Science and Technology Daily and the National Institute of City Economic Vitalization by Science and Technology, evaluated th factors such as the invention patent proportion and authorization rate as well as the effective rate of patents filed.

Wenling, Yuhuan, Linhai and Tiantai all increased in rankings over last year and were placed 14th, 23th, 24th and 70th respectively.

The city's districts of Huangyan, Jiaojiang and Luqiao placed 45th, 48th and 81st respectively, with Jiaojiang seeing an uptick in its ranking when compared with the previous year.

It has been the first time for Sanmen to enter the list, who was ranked the 98th on the list.

The county's rise in innovation capabilities is largely attributable to the great efforts made by local authorities to promote innovation and transformation among local enterprises, said an official from the Sanmen bureau of science and technology.

An economic pillar in the city, the rubber industry has embarked on a journey of industrial transformation and upgrading. Numerous companies in the sector have formed cooperative relations with companies in hi-tech sectors and ramped up investment in brand building and manufacturing facilities.

Meanwhile, the local government has also rolled out a flurry of preferential policies to mobilize enterprises to rev up innovation.

The national high-tech companies are entitled to a one-time award worth one million yuan while provincial ones may be granted up to 100,000 yuan in prizes.

The local authorties have rolled out a three-year action plan to strengthen talent cultivation, with measures including establishing academician work stations and setting up professional training bases.
