​Manufacturing prowess grabs worldwide attention

The latest version of car models including Volvo XC40 compact SUV and Lynk & Co's first 01 crossover debuted at Shanghai international auto expo on April 16.

More than 1,000 automobile manufacturers from 20 countries and regions participated in the exhibition, ranging from auto giants like Volkswagen and Maserati to domestic automakers such as Chery, Geely and BYD.

The exhibition is slated to run until April 25.

Both the two models are produced in Geely's factory based in Luqiao district of Taizhou.

The plant is a modern, digitized and intelligent plant built by the auto group to manufacture cars based on the Compact Modular Architecture (CMA) design.

Four days ago, Geely's Polestar electric brand revealed its first all-electric model, the Polestar 2 in Shanghai, which expects to be manufactured in Luqiao as well.

In recent years, Geely has expanded its presence in Taizhou the city where the automaker is originally based.

The company reported a delivery of 2.15 million vehicles in 2018, up 20.3 percent year-on-year. Its two produce bases situated in the city's Luqiao district and Linhai city has a combined annual capacity of 466,000 vehicles, accounting for nearly one third of its shipments last year.

Li Shufu, chairman of Zhejiang Geely Holding Group, met with Chen Yijun, Party chief of Taizhou on the sidelines of the Shanghai auto fair and expressed desires to further its cooperation with the city.
