Expansion on the Taizhou airport is estimated to start this year and finish within three years, local authorities said recently.

According to the preliminary plan, the airport will add 16 aircraft stands and a new terminal tower covering 35,000 square meters.

By 2030, the passenger throughput of the airport is targeted at 2.5 million annually while the freight throughput stands at 25,000 metric tons.

By 2040, the figures for passenger and cargo throughput stand at 5 million and 50,000 metric tons respectively.

Established in 1954, the Taizhou airport is the first civil airport in a county-level city in China. Occupying 7,850 square meters, it now only has the capacity to accommodate the landing and take-off of four aircrafts.
