Celebrations to mark Lantern Festival

A dazzling array of folk art activities unfolded recently across Taizhou to mark Lantern Festival. 

A dragon lantern parade was held at Lingeng village of Linhai city, which has just been designated as a national historical and cultural village on Monday. 

Two 50-meter-long dragon lanterns, red and green, circled around firecrackers as they explode in the street, creating a strong festive atmosphere. 

An integral part of the festival, the activity of guessing lantern riddles was also held at the cultural hall of Zhaowang village of Luqiao district Sunday. 

At the Bali plaza in Shitang town of Wenling city, Kangtaige, a traditional folk art performance with a history of over 300 years, were staged Friday, attracting thousands of spectators.

Kangtage is a local traditional performance to mark Lantern Festival and harvest, which featuring young actors playing the roles in ancient Chinese dramas while standing or sitting inside sedans.

Lantern Festival, which is usually considered as the curtain closer of the Spring Festival, falls on Feb 19 this year.
