Situated along the southeast coast, Zhang’an ancient town, a name card of Taizhou’s ancient culture, ranks first in the top 10 cultural conservation sites of Taizhou. It was in Zhang’an that Zhao Gou, an emperor of the Song Dynasty (960-1279), once stayed after he retreated to the south of the Yangtze River. Qi Jiguang, a general in the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644), defeated the Japanese here. Also, Wei Wen and Zhuge Zhi, generals in Three Kingdoms (220-280), started their journey to Taiwan from Zhang’an.
